Now More Than Ever

March sure did a 180º on us. This year it came in like a lamb — remember the first week of March, back when life was somewhat normal? It is undeniably going out like a lion at full roar. In between, lives have been turned upside down, routines are out the window and priorities have shifted dramatically.

All this in a matter of days and tougher times still to come. Kinda makes you want to pull the sheets over your head, right? Now more than ever.

But the earth keeps rotating, and dedicated people everywhere keep fighting the good fight. We owe bottomless gratitude to the first responders who chose to be on the front lines and those who find themselves there unexpectedly. Now more than ever.

At home, bedrooms have suddenly become offices and backyards are trending as the top (and only) spring break destination. Change is forced on us, and we accommodate as best we can. Flexibility is essential, now more than ever.

The days of this altered reality tick by, counting down — or perhaps up — to an end elusively out of sight. Probably best to settle in for the long haul. Patience is key, along with a healthy dose of resilience. Now more than ever.

We are acquiring a new language daily, full of phrases unfamiliar to us a mere month ago. In business, some find themselves pushed to their technological boundaries, but just beyond is a door thrown wide open to opportunity. I say pack your creativity and vision and step through already. The time to pivot is now, more than ever.

The statistics are unnerving. The news feed is unrelenting. The circumstances are unprecedented. The toll on mind, body and spirit, individually and collectively, is unclear. What is clear is that a united effort will shift the balance in a positive direction. Whether that means pitching in around the house, checking on a neighbor, supporting a local business, donating blood, or simply staying put because that’s our best defense, cooperation needs to be our standard operating procedure. Now more than ever.

When the crisis is over, the world we return to may look much the same. But make no mistake, it will have changed in ways big and small. We will have changed. And if we step up to meet this challenge with equal parts grace and grit, we just may move mountains in the process. I, for one, look forward to that world. Now more than ever.
